Ongoing Management
Planting
Plant bulbs between Halloween & Thanksgiving. Be sure the soil is below 50° F so that it does not start growing just before it gets really cold.
Fertilization
Add balanced fertilizer when plants first start flowering.
Pruning / Cutting Back
Cut back after flowering or merely remove dead flower heads. This encourages plants to store more energy for next year's blooms.
Alternatively, can leave old flowers, allowing them to dry and encourage re-seeding.
Propagation
Divide every 3-4 years. Dig up plant in Fall, divide, and re-plant where desired.
