Planting
Plant bulbs between Halloween & Thanksgiving. Be sure the soil is below 50° F so that it does not start growing just before it gets really cold.
Bulbs need to be planted 4” deep in well-drained soil.
Weed Control & Mulching |
|
Do NOT mulch over these bulbs in winter. This will cause them to get too wet and the bulbs will rot.
Site Selection & Preparation |
|
If the bulbs are planted in pots, check on them in mid-February and Early March. If green is showing, they are ready to be moved from the garage to the porch.
Planting bulbs with hostas as companion plants is good. The hosta leaves will emerge & cover up the bulb growth as it dies back.
