Ongoing Management
Weed Control & Mulching
Mulch to retain moisture.
Winter - in extreme cold, mulch crown to protect the roots.
Insect & Disease Control
If badly affected by powdery mildew late in the season, to the point of unsightliness, cut stems back to ground.
Fertilization
Spring - Fertilize with balanced, 10-10-10 fertilizer. Do not over-fertilize as this will reduce flowering.
Watering
Water weekly; never let soil dry out.
Pruning / Cutting Back
Deadhead spent blooms to prolong flowering & prevent self-seeding (if desired).
Fall - Cut bee balm down to a few inches, or can leave seed heads on over the Winter to provide bird snacks.
